A Walking Tour of Denver

15th and Lawrence sts. 1907 Denver is an amazing city to live and work in. It has a past full of historic structures and colorful characters for a city that is only about 125 years old. Many famous buildings are named after people who were instrumental in taking Denver from a cow town to a modern city . We want the third graders of DPS to see and hear some of the stories that are part of Denver’s architectural past.

You will be creating a podcast and a magazine layout for the 3rd graders of Denver Public Schools, who will take a walking tour of Denver. The walking tour focuses on many of Denver’s historic landmarks and the people that have made these buildings famous. You will need a working knowledge of the place you choose to talk about and illustrate for our magazine. Therefore you will need to find out as much as you can about your historic landmark.

Your mission- To tell the little known stories and interesting facts about the people and places of Denver. We’re going to call it the “Did you know?”

Podcasts will be about 3 minutes long, remember 3rd graders have short attention spans. You will choose a place that interests you, (Sorry no doubling up, which means one person per site). Try to find the little known facts or interesting tidbits of information that can apture the imagination and bring the site to life. You’ll need to create a script that will be read and recorded for the podcast.

Magazine Layout- Plan a two page spread to be designed in Adobe Indesign. This layout will need to include historic information about your site, “Did you know facts”, and lots and lots of pictures. You may want to include facts about builders or interesting people associated with the site.
